THE INSTITUTIONAL ANIMAL CARE AND USE COMMITTEE (IACUC)

TRAINING

Sheep Species-specific Orientation
(Q-fever Safety Training)

This training is required of all staff working with sheep regardless of prior experience with this species at other institutions or facilities. Allow up to 45 minutes per session. Send your training request to IACUC@ucsf.edu

Topics covered include:

  • Health screening requirement for staff working with sheep
  • Discussion of the disease and routes of potential exposure from sheep to people
  • Screening of sheep for Q-fever
  • Species characteristics and behavior
  • Experimental and peri-operative considerations
  • Anesthesia/analgesia
  • Maintaining medical records
