NSF FASTLANE

Information for UCSF Investigators

Introduction

FastLane is an interactive real-time system used to conduct National Science Foundation business over the Internet. The purpose of this page is to help you begin utilizing the resources available under FastLane. If you are already familiar with FastLane, and have your Personal Identification Number (PIN), then click here to go directly to FastLane. Otherwise, you will need to obtain a PIN number.

Obtaining a PIN Number

To obtain your PIN number the following information should be submitted to: Deanna McHugh
415-476-9838
deanna.mchugh@ucsf.edu

In Deanna's absence, contact:
Debbie Caulfield
415-502-4986
debbie.caulfield@ucsf.edu

  • Name

  • Highest Degree and Year Conferred

  • UCSF Home Department

  • E-Mail Address

  • Business Phone

  • Fax Number (optional)

  • Social Security Number
  • (see next paragraph)

For security reasons, all requests for PIN numbers should come directly from investigators. Requests via graduate students or via administrative staff cannot be honored. Please do not send social security number via unsecure e-mail. After sending a request for a PIN number via e-mail, please call Deanna McHugh and leave your social security number in a voice mail message. (These voice mail boxes are not shared. The message will only be retrieved by the user.)

In most cases, requests for PIN numbers can be processed and activated within the same day. Individual PIN numbers are also available for departmental staff or others.

If you forget your PIN number, you may reset it using the "Forgot Password?" link on the PI Log In page just below the Log In area.

Submittal of Proposal Via C&G

Assistance with proposal submission via FastLane can be obtained by contacting Debbie Caulfield (415-476-2782), debbie.caulfield@ucsf.edu.

One complete copy of the proposal is required at C&G along with a OSR Approval Form signed by the appropriate University officials. The electronic submission of the proposal must be sent through C&G before transfer to NSF - coordinate this submittal with the C&G contacts listed above. Please note that the hard copy with a completed OSR Approval Form and the electronic version of the proposal are both subject to the four working day 9am deadline at C&G so there is adequate time for review and forwarding of the proposal to the NSF.
