NEW INVESTIGATORS: A QUICK GUIDE TO STARTING YOUR RESEARCH AT UCSF

Table of Contents

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This Quick Guide was created in the spirit of collaboration that is representative of the UCSF research environment and many people need to be acknowledged.

The Quick Guide was developed under the guidance and support of Executive Vice Chancellor Reg Kelly and Associate Vice Chancellor Ara Tahmassian of the Office of Research.

This Guide was primarily written, compiled and edited by Vicky L. Kirby-Martin, Compliance Specialist, and Sharon Friend, Director, both in the Human Subjects Protection Program, Office of Research. Irene Anicetti transformed the Guide into a web-based resource.

Other staff in the Office of Research contributed sections to this Guide or provided substantial editorial comments. These people include: Katherine Ho, Joan Kaiser, Pat Clausen, and Deanna Rutter from the Office of Sponsored Research; Joel Kirschbaum from the Office of Technology Management; Bahram Mahbod from the Information Technology Unit, Rick Wagner and Pamela Derish from the Committee on Human Research; Jill Mooney from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee; and Eugene Lau, Larry Wong, Bill Lew, Brynt Johnson and Bob Eaton from Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and Patricia Sneed, Chair of the Radiation Safety Committee.

Several individuals who provide support and guidance to new investigators at UCSF also provided invaluable input into this guide: Lynda Jacobsen, Zina Mirsky, Penny Kniery, and Gerry Padilla.
